Emporia is a center for diverse manufacturing, trade, education, medicine, and tourism. Primary industries include food products, automotive components, fabricators, electronics, telecommunications, and distribution. We are home to Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College.
The Emporia Public School system has a strong academic focus that offers accelerated and advanced-placement classes as well as assistance for students at-risk of failing. Test scores on state and national assessments and achievement tests are at or above state and national averages.
Scores on college entrance tests taken by high school students are at or above state and national averages. More than two-thirds of the graduating seniors go on to post-high school training at universities, colleges and technical schools.

The county seat and largest city in Lyon County, Emporia covers 8.97 square miles. The population of Emporia is 24,916 and the population of Lyon County
